October 2018 Wrap Up

Good Afternoon Everyone! It’s Halloween!

So where I am working now we get x amount of holidays and then we get to choose a holiday to take from a list.  Yep, I take Halloween.

So October seems to have just flown by in the blink of an eye.  Yes, that may be due to me running around like crazy. Really my daughter has to be somewhere after school every day. So that is when I read. If any of you follow me on Instagram you have seen how I spend the non-raining football games. My daughter is in the band so I only have to pay attention during halftime and pre-game.

When I am not running around for that she is also in the orchestra.

String Rreading 2018

So I was looking at what I read in September and October and I could not figure out why my reading had gone down so much from July and August.  Well, I keep needing to remind myself that I am much busier now that school is in full swing. And I should be happy if I just read one book. So that is something that I am working on. Just being happy with what I can accomplish and not focusing on what I didn’t. I know this seems like a simple concept but I am truly my own worst enemy.

But you are not here to hear me ramble about all of that you are here to see what I read this month so here we go!

I finished 10 books this month and DNF’d 2.

September 2018 Wrap Up

What can I say September was not the greatest month personally.  So much is going on and I finally crashed and broke down.  Honestly we all knew it was going to eventually going to happen there was six months of stuff that I let just keep piling up and you can only push so much stuff down before it all comes bubbling to the surface. I had a months worth of post prepared and I feel that is the only reason I made it through last month. I am hoping to get time to build back up my reserve and get things scheduled before the day they are due once again. On a positive note, I think I am getting better but these first two weeks are going to be crazy. Lots of Doctor appointments for the three of us a Wedding and Homecoming. Oh and I am looking for a job if anyone knows of one 🙂

Now lets get into the books that I read during the month of September!

I finished 7 books during the month of September. I am happy with this even though it is a much smaller amount than the past 2 months. With everything else going on I am honestly surprised I was able to accomplish that.

Tome Topple #6 Wrap-up

Tome Topple Read-a-thon

Good Day Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday the 13th! I was born on a Friday the 13th so they do not bother me.

I am going to count this year’s Tome Topple a success for me.  The challenges were:

1. Read more than 1 tome
2. Read a graphic novel (still over 500 pages!)
3. Read a tome that is part of a series
4. Buddy read a tome
5. Read an adult novel

The books that I read for Tome Topple are:

Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trade she uses to get by—palm readings, zars, healings—are all tricks, sleights of hand, learned skills; a means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles.

But when Nahri accidentally summons an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to accept that the magical world she thought only existed in childhood stories is real. For the warrior tells her a new tale: across hot, windswept sands teeming with creatures of fire, and rivers where the mythical marid sleep; past ruins of once-magnificent human metropolises, and mountains where the circling hawks are not what they seem, lies Daevabad, the legendary city of brass, a city to which Nahri is irrevocably bound.

In that city, behind gilded brass walls laced with enchantments, behind the six gates of the six djinn tribes, old resentments are simmering. And when Nahri decides to enter this world, she learns that true power is fierce and brutal. That magic cannot shield her from the dangerous web of court politics. That even the cleverest of schemes can have deadly consequences.

After all, there is a reason they say be careful what you wish for…

Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.

But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

In the kingdom of Goredd, dragons and humans live and work side by side – while below the surface, tensions and hostility simmer.

The newest member of the royal court, a uniquely gifted musician named Seraphina, holds a deep secret of her own. One that she guards with all of her being.

When a member of the royal family is brutally murdered, Seraphina is drawn into the investigation alongside the dangerously perceptive—and dashing—Prince Lucien. But as the two uncover a sinister plot to destroy the wavering peace of the kingdom, Seraphina’s struggle to protect her secret becomes increasingly difficult… while its discovery could mean her very life.

Did anyone else participate in Tome Topple this round?  If so how did you do?
